The Trinity: God the Father and God The Son
by BlackSwan of Memphis ini had been discussing the trinity with someone the other day (hence the topic on i am) and this person alluded to the idea that jesus was saying he himself was jehovah.. well, it occurred to me last night:.
in the doctrine of the trinity, isn't jehovah considered god the father and jesus is god the son?
or am i not understanding the doctrine properly?.

I wrote a short essay years ago on the Watchtower Society's misrepresentation of the Trinity doctrine. It might help. Check it out here:

Great letter. And so true! Thanks for posting.
One point. In a way 1914 is not even a coincidence, because the WTS was looking for the end in October 1914 whereas WWI began several months earlier. They do their best to gloss over this, but the fact remains.
Peace.

"Millions Now Living Will Never Die" was told to be literally true
by VM44 inin the 1920's the watcthower had the "millions now living will never die".
in the proclaimer's book there is a photo of a bible students book booth with a sign that said in large letters, "millions now living will never die!
this is literally true.

still_in74 is right on the money.
Rutherford said that "millions now living will never die" *because* the end was coming in 1925:
Based upon the argument heretofore set forth, then, that the old order of things, the old world, is ending and is therefore passing away, and that the new order is coming in, and that 1925 shall mark the resurrection of the faithful worthies of old and the beginning of reconstruction, it is reasonable to conclude that millions of people now on the earth will be still on the earth in 1925. Then, based upon the promises set forth in the divine Word, we must reach the positive and indisputable conclusion that millions now living will never die. --Millions Now Living Will Never Die, 1920, p.97
Despite this, in later years the WTS attempted to save face by implying that Rutherford's prophecy was actually made in reference to the "great crowd" who would not "pass away" (viz. the "1914 generation"):
*** w84 2/1 p. 24 par. 11 ‘Oneness of Spirit’ in a Rapidly Growing Flock ***
As the gathering of the “little flock” of Kingdom heirs neared completion, Jehovah directed attention to an even larger work, the educating of a “great crowd” who would survive the “great tribulation” to live on earth in a restored Paradise. Thus in 1918 the president of the Watch Tower Society delivered a talk in Los Angeles, California, on a subject later to be repeated by hundreds more speakers, under the title “The World Has Ended, Millions Now Living May Never Die.”
Note the use of the word "Thus" in the quote above. Jehovah directed attention to the educating of the great crowd who would survive the great tribulation... THUS Rutherford delivered the talk Millions Now Living May Never Die. This despite the fact that the supposed identity of the "great crowd" wasn't determined until 1935. But hey, the WTS was never one to let the truth get in the way.

Hurlbut, ebay and WT plagiarism
by Odrade inlast week i picked up an old book on ebay called "hurlbut's story of the bible.
" it's an illustrated "bible" that is arranged by stories, with pictures.
many of them have morals to be learned, some tie in "foreshadowing" of new testament events.

There is no scriptural basis for using the made up word "Jehovah" in prayer. Even if "Jehovah" was the actual name of God and not a made up word there would still be no scriptural basis for using it.
This isn't a gray area. Jesus was asked outright by his followers how they ought to pray:
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples." (Luke 11:1)
If praying using a personal name for God was crucial as the WTS contends then obviously Jesus would have instructed his disciples to use it. Instead, Jesus told his disciples to pray to God as "Father":
He said to them, "When you pray, say: 'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.' " (Luke 11:2-4)

Watching the World: Feb 2009 - Society reports 44% switch religions but omits JW retention rate
by truthseeker inin the february 2009 issue of awake!, the watching the world article reports:.
"according to the pew forum on religion and public life, "44% of adults have either switched religious affiliation, moved from being unaffiliated with any religion to being affiliated with a particular faith, or dropped any connection to a specific religious tradition altogether.
is this report true, and if so did the society leave anything out of the pew forum on religion and public life?.

Great post. Only a third of those raised as JWs still claim to be JWs. The fact that the WTS would quote from this very report shows just how confident they are that individual JWs won't do independent research of any claims made by the Society. And why should they?
But in Jehovah's organization it is not necessary to spend a lot of time and energy in research, for there are brothers in the organization who are assigned to that very thing, to help you who do not have so much time for this, these preparing the good material in The Watchtower and other publications of the Society. –The Watchtower, June 1, 1967, page 338.
If we have love for Jehovah and for the organization of his people we shall not be suspicious, but shall, as the Bible says, 'believe all things,' all the things that The Watchtower brings out, in as much as it has been faithful in giving us knowledge of God's purposes... –Qualified to be Ministers, 1955, page 156.
